Nature never ceases to amaze me because there is always something interesting going on outside. It is very difficult for me to stay inside because I like moving and I’m pulled outdoors to explore.
When we moved to British Columbia from Ontario in 2001 we built a home and studio in Sechelt on the Sunshine Coast. We are one ferry from Vancouver and live among the eagles, fish, shore birds, rainforest in a 8-9 climate zone.
It’s the beginning of June as I write. We have been eating from our garden for a couple of months. While I was weeding today a large fresh swallowtail butterfly drifted by. I ran for my camera and she co-operated by lighting on the beach. There is always something amazing to photograph. Thank you.
Photography is like gardening. The possibilities are only limited by one’s imagination. There are no right or wrongs. It is fine to try something and change it. Beauty feeds the soul.
I am thankful for a strong connection to the earth and a sense of awe at the extraordinary surprises of nature on even the most ordinary days.
Working as a photo lab assistant, teaching photography at the high school level, and taking Photoshop tutorials have all helped me to explore the photography art form.
It gives me great pleasure to know that the great photographer Freeman Patterson started his photography career in earnest when he was 55 years old.
This year I started printing photo images on large canvas using the giclee method. Although I was hesitant to go to the digital world it has opened up endless creative possibilities. Thankfully I still like to get moving too much to sit at the computer too for too long.
The combination of art and technology is totally changing the world of photography. I am right there playing at the edge of the wave.
Enjoy!
